Empowering Columbus Youth: The Impact of My Brother’s Keeper Initiative

In Columbus, the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Initiative is making significant strides in advancing equity and opportunity for boys and young men of color. By aligning with the MBK Alliance’s six milestones, MBK Columbus focuses on removing barriers and creating pathways to success in education, employment, and community engagement through strategic partnerships, leadership development, and policy advocacy.

Mission and Milestones

MBK Columbus is dedicated to ensuring that all boys and young men of color:

  • Enter school ready to learn by expanding access to high-quality early childhood education and family support resources.
  • Read at grade level by third grade through literacy initiatives, tutoring, and community engagement in education.
  • Graduate from high school ready for college and career by fostering mentorship, academic support, and career exploration programs.
  • Complete postsecondary education or training by increasing access to scholarships, workforce development programs, and vocational training.
  • Are employed or receive the training they need by connecting them to employment opportunities, job readiness training, and entrepreneurship resources.
  • Remain safe from violent crime and have second chances by supporting community-based violence prevention efforts, reentry programs, and restorative justice initiatives.

Community Partnerships

MBK Columbus collaborates with various community-based organizations to provide mentoring, academic support, leadership development, workforce readiness, and mental health services. These partnerships are crucial in meeting young people where they are and helping them thrive. By investing in these organizations, MBK Columbus strengthens the systems of care, opportunity, and belonging that every youth deserves.
